Town go down again

And so it continues, the worst run in Seaford Town’s history just keeps on building with yet another defeat

And so it continues, the worst run in Seaford Town’s history just keeps on building with yet another defeat, this time at the hands of promotion chasing AFC Uckfield at The Oaks on Saturday, a side that contained no less than 5 former Seaford players.
There can be no criticising the efforts of the players, but they are just coming up against superior players all the time and despite being able to compete for long periods in the end a touch of quality usually finds a way through.
The pitch at Uckfield was very poor, with the home management trying to persuade referee Dave Smith to call off the game as one corner was extremely hard after the frost but he decided it was fit to play. It was strange how that particular corner was so hard while the rest of the surface was like a pudding and the ball hardly bounced in some areas.
Town did well to contain the home side for most of the first half and when they did get through Ben Head was once again in fine form, cutting out a tremendous cross from the right then pouncing on the loose ball at the feet of Sam Ellis.
Sadly there was little he could do in the 35th minute when the ball was again crossed in from the right, this time Ellis’s looping head went over his head and dropped into the net behind him.
Theo Baker was included in the side for the first time this season after being side-lined with a serious knee injury picked up during pre-season, but he was finding it difficult to get into the pace of the game, although he did show one or two touches when he did get on the ball. He actually had Town’s first real effort on goal early in the second half but his free kick was comfortably saved by Tom Bradford in the Uckfield goal.
There was a touch of good fortune about the second goal just on the hour when an attempted pass bounced off David Hawes knee and fell nicely into Ellis’s path. His path to goal was only obstructed by Head who forced him wider and his shot bobbled along the ground before being forced in by Steve Dallaway.
It could have been worse 3 minutes later but for another superb Head double save, this time off Callum Legate.
Matt Acton had a chance to add to his recent goal tally for Town when Matt Hayward put him through on Bradford, but his shot grazed the far post and went out for a goalkick.
On Saturday Seaford entertain Westfield and will have to pick up some points soon as the games begin to run out for them.
Team:- Head, Stannard, Brown, O’Donnell, Hawes (Tullett), B.Barnett, Browning (Pullinger), Acton, Piperakis, Hayward, Baker (Le Cras)
