Seaford finally on the board after fighting back for draw at Godalming

Seaford Town recorded their first point of the new Division One campaign as they came back from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 2-2 draw at the Bill Kyte Stadium against an in-form Godalming Town. Following consecutive opening defeats to Forest Row and Epsom, Paul Wise's team looked to stop the early season bleeding with a result on the road at a side who had enjoyed a very promising start to their Division One campaign under Phil Ruggles.

Godalming's search for a third win on the bounce got off to a perfect albeit fortuitous start, with the home side taking the lead in the 20th minute. Under pressure from the Godalming front line, Seaford 'keeper Mike Platt's attempted clearance rebounded off the side of winger Rikkie Letch, with Platt unable to retreat back to his goal-line in time to prevent the ball from trickling into the net.

Less than ten minutes after the opener, and another moment to forget for the Seaford backline resulted in the hosts doubling their lead just before the hour mark. After striker Sam Boultwood made space to get a shot off inside the box, his subsequent dragged effort was swept into the goal by Seaford centre-back Ollie Lee.

At large risk of the game running away from them heading into the break, Seaford received a much needed lifeline in the 45th minute when Callum Connor was adjudged to have been obstructed just inside the area. Up stepped Connor to comfortably slot away from the penalty, getting his third in as many games to make it 2-1 heading in at halftime.

Seaford came out stronger in the second half following a first 45 minutes which saw the away side fail to click offensively for large portions. Reece Edwards, playing behind the striker, showed signs of attacking threat following the restart, sending an effort over the bar after jinking away from a number of Godalming challenges.

With chances beginning to arrive in greater volume for Seaford, Godalming soon found themselves dropping further back into their own half amidst a wave of pressure from the visitors. Soon enough, Seaford were able to find their equaliser, with captain Ben Dartnall heading home in the 62nd minute courtesy of a dangerous delivery from left-back Matt Holland.

The fulltime score of 2-2 meant that while Seaford continue to search for their first victory of the new campaign, a point against a side who had yet to drop points in their opening two fixtures could well be the catalyst for change in Town's early season fortunes. Seaford now look ahead to next weekend when they travel to London for their FA Vase tie against Sporting Bengal United.
