Drama in abundance at the Crouch as Seaford and Dorking share the points

It was a day for the neutrals at the Crouch as Dorking twice came from behind to draw 2-2 against a battling Seaford side. In a game of red cards, penalties amongst an array of contested decisions, Seaford were made to wait even longer for their first win of the campaign despite showing tangible improvements in their performance.

Seaford got off to the perfect start in their search for a first three points of the season, with Mike Waller scoring his first goal since returning to the Crouch in the 4th minute. Incisive play from Reece Edwards saw the winger cut inside the Dorking midfield, before finding the path of Waller on the opposite flank who fired across goal to make it 1-0.

Chances arrived at both ends throughout the first half, most notably for Seaford when Matt Holland blasted a strike from 30 yards, with the away side needing 'keeper Callum Backhurst to prevent their deficit being extended.

Dorking soon went on to find an equaliser in the 21st minute, after Seaford's failure to deal with possession resulted in the ball bouncing into the path of Sekou Toure who was able to lift the ball over Mike Platt to bring Wanderers level.

Seaford regained the lead just after the half hour mark, with Dorking centre-back Jack Bingham turning the ball into his own net after Matt Holland drilled a low cross into the path of the defender following a well-worked free-kick routine.

An encouraging first half display from a Seaford standpoint, leading at the half for the first time so far this season. Encouraging displays from the likes of winger Reece Edwards also gave the home support reason to be cheerful at the break.

The second half saw just as level a playing field as the first left off, with the two sides showing beginning to cancel each other out in the centre third. The visitors were able to draw to level for a second time in the 58th minute, with Jack Saunders lashing home from 12 yards after a scramble in the box saw the ball roll into the path of the forward with the goal at his mercy.

Ollie Lee thought he had given Seaford their third lead of the game not long after Dorking's equaliser after heading home from a wide delivery, but the linesman's flag was quick to dispel the hosts' hopes of a third goal.

The biggest drama of the game unfolded with just under 20 minutes of normal time to play. The initial confusion ensued when the referee awarded Dorking a deserved free-kick in the middle of the park, yet signalled the foul in Seaford's favour. With Seaford committing bodies up the pitch, Dorking were then allowed to take the free-kick, of which resulted in the away side being awarded a penalty as Dorking made the most of their numerical advantage in the final third.

Outrage from the Seaford dugout resulted in a lengthy break in play, with manager Paul Wise and coach Billy Pout being shown cautions in the wake of their remonstration. Eventually up stepped Mark Soares from the spot, who saw his penalty kept out by Platt in the Seaford goal, delighting the home contingent ahead of what could have been an increasingly bitter end to second half proceedings.

Having already seen a penalty saved, Dorking's second half ambitions soon took another hit, with striker Ben Aubrey being sent off in the 79th minute after receiving a second yellow card. Despite both sides pressing on into the last few moments, the referee brought an end to proceedings at two goals apiece, with a point either way arguably proving to be a fair outcome based on the balance of play.
