Seaford's Vase campaign comes to a Mile End as Sporting Bengal advance in the Capital

Seaford Town have fallen at the first hurdle in their FA Vase journey after a 2-0 defeat by Sporting Bengal United at the Mile End Stadium. Two goals just before the half time whistle meant Seaford's hunt for their first victory of the new campaign would continue, with the Mile End side advancing to the second qualifying round of the competition.

It took time for both sides to pose any real questions of their respective opposition defences, with the first real opening for either side coming for Sporting in the 35th minute when Seaford 'keeper Mike Platt coming out quickly to charge down an effort from striker Liam George.

With less than five minutes to play before the half, Sporting went on to take control in swift fashion, with two quickfire goals from George seeing the home side head in at the break two goals to the good.

The first, a 42nd minute strike buried in the bottom corner after the forward had shifted away from several Seaford defenders inside the box. Just 3 minutes later, George was on hand to head home his second after an excellent first time delivery was swung into a dangerous area just outside the 6-yard box.

For the second time in as many games, Seaford found themselves trailing at the half, with a big second half response required in order to keep their FA Vase campaign alive.
The visitors certainly began to provide more of a goalward threat in the second 45, with Matt Holland first going close after glancing a header onto the crossbar from one of a multitude of dangerous long-throws provided by Shaun Skipper.

Another moment of promise for Seaford came just past the 70 minute mark when Holland looked to have beaten Sporting 'keeper Kevin Brushi to the ball just outside the box, but the forward was brought down with the subsequent free-kick coming to no avail.

Paul Wise's side continued to be frustrated in front of goal, with substitute Martin Farkas seeing a headed effort tipped over the bar with 15 minutes to play. The introductions of Farkas alongside fellow U23 Muhammad Hammad injected some promise for Seaford heading into the final moments, yet a lack of conviction in the forward areas meant the trailing away side were left frustrated in their search for a route back into the tie.

Town turn their attention back to the league for the time being, travelling to Worthing United on Tuesday night hoping to ignite their 2022/23 Division One season.
